Hello, my name is Raina Pintamo and I am a Junior Applied Engineering Systems student at Michigan State University. I have been involved with Engineers Without Borders and the Tanzania project for 2 years.
This trip will be my first time leaving the country other than Canada and I am extremely excited for this experience! I have traveled around the country and am happy to expand my experiences outside of the US.
Over the past 3 years I have traveled to Chicago, New York City, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Gatlinburg, TN.
My favorite trip was spending Freshman year spring break in New Orleans with EWB. We volunteered with the St. Bernard Project and assisted in the rebuild of a home destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
Even though we were busy volunteering for most of the day, we still got to explore the city and see some great sights!
We also went to John Lafitte National Park and walked around the boardwalk. We even saw two baby alligators!
I spent my last spring break in the hiking trails in the Smokey Mountains. We also stopped in Nashville for two days and got to experience some authentic country music.
I am so excited to broaden my travel experience with this trip. It will be amazing to learn about another culture while implementing a project we have been working on for so long.
